Alkaline Water Is Good For Hydration

Staying hydrated when practicing sports is essential to maintain a good performance and avoid the risk of dehydration.

One of the latest trends in hydration is alkaline water, which is being marketed as a specially treated beverage that can improve athletic performance.

Based on the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition, alkaline water has an increasing hydrating effect through blood viscosity versus regular water. Blood viscosity is level hydration being measured. When you have a low blood viscosity, your hydration level should be higher. In this case study, participants were given water to drink after their workout, half alkaline water, half regular purified water. Those consumed alkaline water, their viscosity reduced to about 6.30% compared to those who consumed regular water with their reduction averaging 3.36%.

For this reason, many athletes choose alkaline water for extra hydration over other water because of its perceived health benefits and refreshing taste.

It is important to remember that the most critical factor in hydration during exercise is the regular and sufficient intake of fluids. Drinking water, whether it is alkaline or regular, can help athletes maintain and improve their performance.

Therefore, if you are an athlete or a person who practices sports regularly, it is essential to make sure that you stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids, especially during and after physical activity, to reduce the risk of dehydration and maintain peak performance. Furthermore, it is recommended to also replenish electrolytes lost through sweat during exercise by consuming sports drinks or other sources of nutrients such as fruits and vegetables, which contain essential minerals that can help the body maintain its fluid balance. Additionally, it is important to consult with a healthcare professional or licensed nutritionist before making any significant changes in your diet or hydration routine.
